The best way to increase the longevity and appearance of your leather shoes, bags, and other leather items is to keep them moisturised. Oils and balms such as our Leather Revitalising Oil and Beeswax Balms prevent leather from drying which leads to cracking. Unfortunately when leather has dried out to the point of cracking there is no return, so it is important to oil regularly. As a general rule of thumb, if you're using your leather goods frequently you'll want to oil them every couple of months. If you happen to wear your shoes in water, especially salt water, it's best to oil them afterwards.
To oil your bag, shoes, or any other leather item simply apply a small amount of oil or beeswax cream to a cloth and wipe onto the leather, applying more oil or balm as necessary. There is no need to oil the inside of your bags or the hardware like buckles and zips. Note that different leathers absorbs oil differently so keep in mind some things will need more or less. Oiling also darkens the leather but after allowing the leather to dry, it will lighten back up again.
With a little help from natural oil, your leather goods will stay looking good and last for many years to come.
Happy oiling!
